The Least Stylish Prince of Wales?

Is there hope for The Prince of Wales to inherit some style wisdom from The King?

Watching William’s portrayal in The Crown precisely at this age when he donned some loose-fitting jeans and some rugged knitwear made me realise just how better dressed he could have become as sartorial successor to Charles. This was the moment his wardrobe could have gone massively right.

Instead, we see him in this constant kind of Business Casual, of navy chinos and formal shirts, all of which are fine in their right place; with such powerful connections and access to some of the best brands in the world (Anderson & Sheppard and Gaziano & Girling to name two titans), how is it the case he looks like he exclusively shops at Charles Tyrwhitt?

There was hope when he seemed to have abandoned the usual belt and go for a high-rise trouser with a brown jacket - utterly acceptable and smart - but it was just a fleeting moment of rakish redemption.

I do wonder if Charles ever nudged William in the right direction he himself has impeccably marched for decades. Still, when occasion calls for a grander dress code, William is on the mark and proves in many more important ways how dutiful he is and will be as heir to the throne, if not heir to a herringbone coat or colourful handkerchief once in a while.
